Design and DisplayFeaturing an all-metal design, Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is one chic handset you will not be reluctant to flaunt before your friends. The device is slightly thinner and lighter than the original Marathon M5 at 8.4 millimetres and 208 grams respectively.
It crams in a larger, sharper 6-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, a significant improvement on the somewhat disappointing HD resolution of the screen on the earlier device.
Camera and StorageThe Marathon M5 Plus packs a 13-megapixel primary camera with Phase Detection Autofocus that supposedly locks in focus in just one second. Buyers will also get a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for some decent selfies.
Gionee provides ample 64 GB of onboard storage for holding your photos, songs and videos. The storage allocation is expandable by another 128 GB using a microSD card.
Performance and OSUnder the hood, Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is equipped with an upgraded MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor, an improvement over the quad-core CPU provided on the Marathon M5.
The processor, which is paired with a Mali-T720 GPU and ample 3 GB of RAM, has its speed also clocked at 1.3 GHz, however. Gionee's Amigo 3.1 OS, based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, still runs the show on the phablet.
Superb Battery PowerA very large 5020mAh battery powers the Gionee Marathon M5 Plus. You may still consider that a bit disappointing given the Marathon M5 was equipped with a whopping 6020mAh battery.
But the battery provided here is in fact supposed to last longer. A unique thing about this phablet's battery is its ability to retain power after numerous charges, unlike most smartphone juicers.
Gionee says the battery is able to retain 90 percent capacity after an amazing 600 charging cycles, which translates to about two years. Dual-charging chips allow you get enough power to last a full day after a 60-minute charge.
The Marathon M5 Plus has a fingerprint scanner embedded in its home button. It also features a reversible USB Type-C port.
